My First Styled Shoot...Ever

In honor of both Flashback Friday AND the official start of Football season, today's blog is featuring my very first styled shoot: a JMU Football Tailgate.

I remember when I was approached about my first styled shoot. It was three years ago and honestly, I was a little skeptical. If you didn't know, I used to have an online e-publication called Twila that featured articles from bloggers and industry professionals, stories, and styled shoots and a lot of other fun things. Unfortunately, it took up too much time for not enough money when I started going full time into my business and after 10 issues, I stopped. But boy was it fun! I still miss it.

Anyways...when first approached about this first styled shoot for the magazine, I didn't know why would people want to participate. Who would want to work with me and donate things or spend their Saturdays with us? This was before the whole 'Community Over Competition' thing started and before the creative industry was so supportive and before Styled Shoots became the norm. I was so surprised when everyone involved said yes and couldn't wait for the chance to work with these people.

And still 3 years later, I absolutely love these photos and this is still hands down one of my favorite shoots. We had so many people there that day to make it happen and it was so much fun. We actually ate the food and drank the beer and played the games. It was more of a party than a styled shoot.

One day, I'd love to do another shoot like this where it's more of a fun party and less of a styled shoot...so much more character and liveliness. Want in?? Let's do it.
