New Location, New Website

These past few months have been just crazy. Between moving and figuring out my next move with the business, there’s been a lot going through my head and I’ve been making a lot of decisions.

Running a business is tough. And this past spring was especially tough. Between Joe being gone and then getting injured, prepping for this crazy move half way across the country, assessing what I wanted to do with the business amongst other things, there were a lot of big decisions that had to be made and a lot of {self put} weight on my shoulders. I was stressed to the max. And I’ll be honest, a big part of me wanted to move out here, downsize Twila, get a regular full-time job for more stability and just take a break and breath for a little while. When I get stressed or scared, my tendency is to just run the other direction and avoid it. But that’s not reality, is it?

After seven years of owning Twila & Co., I couldn’t just let it go. It means too much to me and I felt like I wouldn’t be letting it live up to it’s potential by quitting….yet. So I decided to reassess. I figured out the things I liked about the company, took note on the things I didn’t like, and imagined what I wanted the business to look like.

First thing I decided, and probably the biggest change, was that I’m no longer going to be offering wedding invitations (or any invitations for that matter). Crazy, right?! That’s been a huge part of my business since the beginning. But after telling my life coach I was considering removing myself from that part of my business, she said ‘Duh! Why would you want to work with someone who is already stressed out about a stressful event?’

Talk about spitting some truth! It was the exact perspective I needed to make that final decision. So I’ve finished out my current projects, and that’t is. I’m all done with them. It’s crazy, but also feels like a huge weight lifted off of my shoulders that I didn’t even know was there.

The next thing I decided was that I wanted my business to work more with watercolors. I LOVE doing the maps, and custom homes, and custom boats, and products and working with small businesses in that respect. And that’s where I’m going to be focusing my business more on. I recently did a custom map for a local (to Fredericksburg) business to be used in their marketing collateral, and it was awesome! And now I have a list of maps I want to do for other towns and places that I love.

And lastly is that I will be working on very select marketing and branding projects. Meaning that I love working with small businesses that resonate with or mean something to me and I want to help them from start to finish with new marketing and branding materials. And as a small business, I know how important it is and I want to be able to help in a way that I can.

And there ya have it. The big ole changes that took me entirely too long to decide on and a new website that also took me entirely too long to build. But we’re here now and that’s what matters, right?
